Reviewing 2022 to start 2023

Happy New Year Bloggers! Once again, we’ve made it through one calendar year, into another one! I hope your holiday celebrations went well, you got to spend time with your loved ones, and stayed relatively healthy during all this. As always, I can’t wait to see what the blogging community has in store this year.

It’s a fun time since this is my beginning of the year, annual post. I think by now you guys get the gist, so let’s go ahead and dive in!

Drama Watching Goals 2022

  • Complete my A-Z Drama Challenge
  • Complete my A-Z Movie Challenge

So I am… somewhat exhausted from these challenges. I just barely truly finished the drama challenge before 2023 because I skipped around my list (i.e. skipped the KDramas), which led to a mad dash of watching approximately 41, 50+ minute episodes in less then a week. I’m not saying if this was good or bad on my end, but it was done. The challenges are done. I can return to staring at my PTW list and watching nothing from it like everyone else.

My movie challenge was a lot easier since I finished that back in June, so the pressure has been off for awhile.

Overall, I will do a retrospective on these challenges as their own separate posts with final thoughts, unofficial awards, etc. My short summary is – I am not going to do a challenge like this for ANYTHING for a long-ass time.

Anime and Manga Goals 2022

  • Watch one anime from my ‘Plan to Watch List’ that I put on there because of another blogger
  • Read and review Swan by by Kiyoko Ariyoshi

I did it! Yay!! So for my first goal, that was Black Magic: M-66. Both Scott from Mechanical Anime Reviews, and Ebisuno of Watching Asia Film Reviews, gave this OVA pretty glowing reviews way back. Also it’s by Masamune Shirow of Ghost in the Shell fame so… a bit of a no brainer? I just kept saving it for reasons, and finally watched it. It’s probably my favorite OVA of last year. So well worth the watch.

As for my second point, I cleared that pretty early on March 12 2022, here! Yay for me! I also managed to cover all the sequels and spin-offs of the series too! (For better or worse) It was an emotional journey, but one that I can say that for now, it’s finished. What a blessing.

With 2022 reviewed and commented on, let’s take a look at what’s in store for 2023-

Drama Watching Goals 2023

  • None

I think goals conceptually are a good thing. It adds structure when someone might struggle with it otherwise, or are open ended enough to be achievable easily upon serious reflection. However, after my 2020-2022 drama/movie challenge I think I need a long break of just… watching things to watch them. That doesn’t need to be written down, but should be just experienced I think.

Anime Goal of 2023

  • Watch one anime from my ‘Plan to Watch List’ that I put on there because of another blogger

Like I said before, why fix something that isn’t broken? It’s a relatively simple goal, and easy to accomplish. I think I might aim for a series over an OVA or movie. We’ll have to wait and see on this one.

As for why there’s no manga goals – I can’t think of anything and I’m not going to force it. I have titles I’m currently reading, and some on my shelves. Maybe I’ll get some thoughts out, a review or not, maybe I won’t.

And with that… I’m calling this post finished! This is a way less ramble-y version then previous years, but I am doing some minor style experiments with my writing. As always, let me know your thoughts, opinions or your own blogging/media consumption goals for 2023. I’ll see you next post!

  1. Yay, congrats on meeting your 2022 goals! It had to be tough to find dramas and movies to match all the letters of the alphabet. I totally understand needing a little rest after achieving those really big goals. I think most people would need a break after that! Hmm, yeah I need to spend more time on my Plan to Watch anime list too. Maybe that will be my 2023 goal too?

    • Thank you! It was a little tricky but my PTW was great to start and then I just filled in the remainders lol. I’m spending some time with my anime PTW to recover. I feel like I neglected it for awhile. lol And I say go for it! The PTW list is always a lot of fun to dig through.

  2. Happy New Year! Hope you had a nice holiday time. I don’t generally place any goals for my drama etc watching. I learned ages ago that I just can’t seem to stick to them. 😄 Having goals like that would be too stressful now as I never know if I have time to watch anything any given week.

    • Happy New Year to you as well! I have another day or so to chill, so I’m just a blob at home lol.

I see. Honestly it was a huge learning curve for me, I thrive with structure but this was a bit too much for me.

  3. Congratulations on completing your goals. I’m not sure if I’ll have time for Japanese stuff this year (except maybe music releases) since I’ve been shifting back to Hindi stuff since late last year lol. So no goals yet. I’m looking forward to your blog this year!

    • Thank you! Lol, I’ll keep you posted on the Japanese stuff – Reo’s first announced drama is out on Netflix on the 19th. And ohh Hindi media! I’ve never watched those before, I should look into that sometime.

      • They’ve got some pretty good stuff. Just finished Yash Raj’s Spy universe (kind of like Marvel in that they’re linked). And I’m looking forward to Reo’s and Ryota’s upcoming dramas too!

      • I’ve never heard of Yash Raj or the Spy universe, so I’ll have to check it out!

I knew about Reo’s drama, but I’ll have to check out Ryota’s too!! Also so happy for Ryota that him and Tao are going to get married!

  4. Congrats on completing your challenge, I am considering doing Tessa’s 52 anime week challenge where you watch one anime in a week which is more than doable would help me towards my goal (hopefully when you read this my post will be out for this haha)

I have not watched Drama of any sort for probably four months definitely have intended to get back on that this month. The alchemy of stars really grabs my interest and cha-cha town.

I wish you having a laid more back 2023!!

    • Thank you!! I’ve heard a lot about these 52 *something* week challenges. That does sound super do-able too!! (I’ll have to go to that post ASAP!)

Dramas come and go, don’t beat yourself over it lol. The Alchemy of Starts and Cha-cha town both seem to be really well received so I think you’ll have a good time watching them!

I wish you a pleasent 2023 as well!
