28 Day Shoujo Challenge – Day 1

So it is the month of love you guys! Valentine’s Day is that one special episode of shoujo anime where our beloved protagonist, manages to create the perfect chocolate confession in a single night. Then day of, bravely hand it over in hopes of being accepted, but having to wait until March 14th, White Day, to have her feelings reciprocated…

You’re telling me that’s not how it works in shoujo anime? That it’s not even how it works in real life? That shoujo manga and animeΒ liedΒ to me? That Valentine’s day in anime isn’t even the theme of this very post?

Correct! This post isn’t about any of that, aside from shoujo anime! What this post actually is, is my way-long introduction and start of the “28 Day Shoujo Challenge” that Keiko created. I wanted to do it last year when she started it actually. By the time I got myself together and ready to write the first seven days had passed. I hate starting things ‘late’, so I vowed that the following year I would do this challenge so here I am!

Without further delay today’s topic is: First Shoujo Anime You Watched.

The very first shoujo anime I ever watched, was the classic “Ouran High School Host Club”. I was a mere weeb just dipping their toes into the wonderful world of anime, after having found manga had this “anime” thing that goes with it sometimes. I did in fact, kiss kiss fall in love, with this series as many did in the early 2010’s. It helped that my friend owned the box set and we had a three day weekend to spare.

Despite my latter developed gripes about the series, I will always have a soft spot for the wacky hijinks of the club and all it’s members. I’m lucky this series is my first shoujo series. It’s funny, cute, and fast-paced to entertain my teenage mind, with the added benefits of many friends getting hooked into anime in a similar manner around the time. “Ouran High School Host Club”, not only made me fall in love with anime in many ways, but also helped me fall in love with shoujo as well.

With that, I bid you a dramatic shoujo rose petals falling farewell until Day 2 tomorrow!

  1. I’m glad to see you’re taking on the challenge! I hope you enjoy it 😊 Ouran is such a good first shoujo anime to watch. I’m watching it again with my little sister who is just getting started into anime. She’s loving it so far. :’)
